Unit 4: Early Quantum Theory

In this century our understanding of the behaviour of energy and matter has been irrevocably altered by the quantum theory. Practical results from quantum theory are the electron microscope, solar cells, and smoke alarms. The development of quantum theory caused a lot of argument and controversy. Many scientists didn't accept the implications of quantum theory, but were unable to come up with another theory that explained the observable effects.
